Success Story

Dr. Barriga is a Teaching Specialist in the Plant Biology Department at the University of Georgia’s Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. She utilizes PeerDoc and PeerPoll in her lecture class, which has about 100 students, and in her labs, which have 4 to 16 students each.

Challenge

Dr. Barriga teaches an introductory course on Plant Biology. The classrooms are guided by surveys and assignments. Dr. Barriga collaborates with Teacher Assistants to gather feedback and increase classroom transparency. For her coursework, she needed a platform that allowed students to discuss boundaries and accountability within their groups. For her labs, she teaches students to give constructive feedback on their teammates’ quality of work as well as a reflection of their own performance.

Customized Solution

Our team has partnered with Dr. Barriga since she was hired at UGA to create an engaging learning environment with Rampant Strategy’s systems; PeerDoc and PeerPoll. 

 

PeerPoll is used to test comprehension of the content and to see how well the student was listening to the lecture. This helps the student digest and recall valuable information. PeerPoll is also used to register attendance, participation, and engagement completion grades during in-person lectures.

 

PeerDoc has been utilized in the labs where there are PeerDoc assignments, check-ins on team projects, and collaboration amongst peers. Additionally, feedback is received utilizing team reflections to carefully resolve conflicts.

Results

Dr. Barriga has used Rampant to create a learning environment that revolves around reflection, self-evaluation, and student assessment for their understanding of the course content There have been personalized guides created for her TAs to use while grading, and the Student Guides provide clear walkthroughs of the platform for easy navigation and accessibility. She also has appreciated the patience of the Rampant team, as they can swiftly work with students with any abrupt issues. She states the Rampant team efficiently solves problems or answers questions about registering or using the software.
